  • 1 tsp white vinegar
  • 0.25 tsp salt
  • 0.5 cups red velvet cake crumbs
  • 0.33 cups sweetened condensed milk
  • 1 tbsp unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 34 cups powdered sugar, sifted
  • 23 tbsp milk or heavy cream
  • A few drops of ivory or peach food coloring
  • Candy fangs or small dots of red vegan gelatin
  • Red syrup or edible red gel
  • Straws

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a muffin tin with paper liners.
  2. In a bowl, cream together softened butter and sugar until fluffy. Add eggs one at a time, followed by vanilla and red food coloring.
  3. In another bowl, sift together flour, cocoa powder, and salt. Alternate adding dry ingredients and buttermilk to the wet mixture until just combined.
  4. Fill muffin cups two-thirds full and bake for 18-20 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean. Cool on wire racks.
  5. For filling, mix red velvet cake crumbs with sweetened condensed milk and melted butter; add red food coloring to desired hue.
  6. Once cooled, core cupcakes and fill with the mixture.
  7. Beat softened butter for frosting until creamy; gradually add powdered sugar and milk/cream until smooth. Frost each cupcake generously.
  8. Decorate with candy fangs and drizzle red syrup for blood drips.
