  • 4 oz cream cheese (cold)
  • 3/4 cup powdered sugar
  • 1 tsp granulated white sugar
  • 1 1/2 tsp salt
  • 2 tbsp granulated white sugar (for filling)
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 2 tbsp fresh lemon juice

Instructions

  1. Warm the milk to about 110 degrees and combine with yeast and sugar. Let sit until frothy.
  2. In a separate bowl, whisk flour and salt together. Add eggs, butter, vanilla, and lemon zest to the yeast mixture.
  3. Gradually mix in the flour until a soft dough forms; knead for 5-7 minutes.
  4. Place dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise until doubled in size (about 1 hour).
  5. Prepare filling by mixing softened butter, sugars, lemon juice, zest, and salt.
  6. After rising, roll out dough into a rectangle, spread filling evenly, then roll tightly.
  7. Slice into pieces and place in a greased baking dish; let rise again for about 30-45 minutes.
  8. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and bake for 25 minutes until golden brown.
  9. For the frosting, beat cream cheese with softened butter; gradually mix in powdered sugar along with lemon juice and zest.
