Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 cups fresh pitted cherries
  • 1 cup granulated sugar (divided)
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter (melted)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and grease a baking dish with butter or cooking spray.
  2. Toss pitted cherries with half of the sugar (1/2 cup) in a large bowl and let sit for about 10 minutes to release juices.
  3. In another bowl, mix flour, baking powder, salt, and remaining sugar (1/2 cup) until well combined.
  4. Melt butter and let cool slightly; mix it with milk before adding to dry ingredients. Stir until just combined; lumps are fine.
